Young Canadians Surviving Cancer

Young adults with cancer face unique concerns such as fertility, body image, cognitive function, long-term effects, education, new relationships, parenting young children, employment and more.

We have recognized that peer support and familiar stories are hard to come by, especially here in the Fraser Valley.

We have very rapidly moved from being a small support group, into a full out support unit and we are quickly gaining ground.  We are a registered non profit organization and are working towards becoming a charity.

Our focus is on quality of life. There is a huge gap in both medical and government resources for young adults with cancer.  Things that we take for granted become an un-neccesary struggle.  While emphasis is placed on finding childcare, paying for pricey medications, replacing our income, fostering a new relationship, etc.  When we should be focussed on getting well.

We hold a monthly meeting for support and also hold a wide variety of events and gatherings to both raise awareness of cancer in young adults, and to provide a social network of people who have been where you have.  It also helps to have some positive memories stemming from all that cancer nastiness.  We encourage family involvement in all activites.

YCSC's focus is "What about now?"  There are many organizations focussed on a cure, and we support them all, but what do we do in the meantime?  We use our resources and funds to better quality of life For young adults with cancer.  Anything from providing childcare through treatments, to helping you attend a retreat that could provide you with new perspective, we are here to help ease the burdens and to provide some new and fun opportunities while we're at it!  Cancer will never be fun, be we can help make it easier.
